Show Directory Size in File Browser View

It would be very helpful to display directory sizes directly in the file browser, similar to how file sizes are shown. Currently, there's no way to see folder sizes without running a custom script or using the terminal. This feature would significantly improve usability when browsing and managing remote file systems.

The problem is that these size calculations take some time, so at best it could be implemented in such a way that you have some kind of option in the context menu to calculate the size

Would it be possible to implement it as an optional column in the file browser (e.g. "Size" for directories), which the user can enable if needed? We understand that it may take some time to calculate, but for our use case, the delay wouldn't be a major issue.

The problem is that it can take a lot of time, depending on the size of the directory (which we don't know beforehand). You can try that for yourself by running du -h -s <dir> on a large directory or /.

Yes, I’m aware that calculating directory size with du can be slow — I already use custom scripts when needed.

What I’m looking for is a way to optionally show directory sizes in the file browser view, as a column, just like file sizes. I understand this can't be calculated instantly, but having it as an on-demand toggle or column option would be really helpful for some workflows.

Is there currently any way to achieve this in XPipe, or plans to support something like that? Also, would it be possible (or make sense) to override XPipe's default ls behavior to combine it with du output ?

I can look into adding this for XPipe 17. But I will have to experiment first on how to exactly implement it
