ENV vars changed when attach to docker container inside wsl distro

When I attach to a docker container inside a wsl distro using xpipe gui, the ENV vars is different with "docker exec -it container bash", somebody knows why?

XPipe runs docker exec -it container sh -l. If you search for shell environments for that container, bash should show up. Then launching bash should result in the same environment

Thank you, I think I got the reason.

The diff is not caused by sh or bash, it's caused by "-l" arguments. how can I change the default behavior to remove the "-l".

What kind of container is this where the -l makes a difference?

The correct behavior should be using the -l to have a proper login environment

I think by default using "-l" is not a good choice in the case of container. because the ENV vars defined in the Dockerfile or docker-compose.yml will be ignored.

I'm not aware that using -l overrides anything in the dockerfile by default without having some profile script

PATH defined in Dockerfile:

ENV PATH="/app/venv/bin:${PATH}"

PATH defined in /etc/profile
export PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin"

docker exec -it container bash -> /app/venv/bin is included in the PATH var
docker exec -it container bash -l -> /app/venv/bin is not included in the PATH var

I see. Although I would argue that the /etc/profile is misconfigured, it should always include the original variable :$PATH when adding more paths to it.

There are containers where the -l makes a difference so I can't just remove that outright. What is the image name of your container so I can look into it?

It isn't a public docker image. The base image has a /etc/profile with line:
export PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin"

I think you can reproduce this by the following simple sample Dockerfile:

FROM python:3.12.3-alpine3.20

ENV PATH="/any:${PATH}"
