Thoughts on adding ~/.config/tmux/tmux.conf as another place to look for the config file?

I run with tmux and nvim, the configs for nvim are in the ~/.config/nvim folder. I would find it very convenient if I could also have my tmux config in the same place. It would make it much easier to store my configs on github to share or have on the go without needing to run around and have a ~/.tmux.conf file that just sources from the location I actually want to store my files at.

The simple solution is to have tmux look at the location I suggested if a config was not found at the default location. Is there support for me working to add this feature?

Use tmux -f ~/.config/tmux/tmux.conf instead?

Or alias tmux="tmux -f ~/.config/tmux/tmux.conf" ?

You could do that, or just move your file since this feature was added five years ago.

I found what you mentioned after scrolling to the File section in the man page.

I was only looking at the -f option and only mentioned:
Specify an alternative configuration file. By default, tmux loads the system configuration file from /etc/tmux.conf, if present, then looks for a user configuration file at ~/.tmux.conf, $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/tmux/tmux.conf or ~/.tmux.conf.

I found it strange that it double mention ~/.tmux.conf
