pandoc 1.13.1

I was trying to convert a docx containing linked (not embedded) images to latex. In .tex file the images are missing. Have to fix manually.

When you say "the images are missing," do you mean that there is no corresponding includegraphics command in the latex file, or that the actual image is not extracted from the docx container?

If the latter, have you looked at the --extract-media option?

I think there is a style of image where the images are not embedded in the document but linked to (like in most other mark up formats). Here is the linted xml...
