Link Ecosystem Funds to Open Collective Discovery Pages

Summary

Open Collective's Discovery Dashboard provides a great way to surface collectives by tags and categories. We could enhance its utility by associating funds with corresponding category/tag pages.

While the two projects work closely together, ecosyste.ms and open source collective aren’t that closer partners, we didn’t want to tie either one too each other, funds supports many payment methods, so we can’t just easily integrate them together with potential conflicts of interest.

I should clarify that OCF (which I believe was the only host doing this) was linking to an Open Collective fund (not integrating).

While I understand the challenges with deeper integration between ecosyste.ms and Open Source Collective, I’m not sure there’s a conflict if we’re just linking to existing Open Collective funds (rather than Ecosystem Funds specifically).

Also, Open Collective’s Discovery platform (https://discover.opencollective.com/) seems much better suited to surface relevant funds than their standard search (https://opencollective.com/search?q=&type=FUND). It feels like a natural place to make those connections for folks already looking to support a specific ecosystem.

FYI discover was built primarily for Open Collective Foundation as a marketing tool, so that they could point at a specific funding area and point to the impact they had had in that area. I guess you're saying someone using discover similarly for Open Source could benefit from seeing all the activity we (ecosystems) are pushing through open collective within a particular ecosystem.

I think this simply boils down to tagging funds that we create programatically with the language that ecosystem resides...

FYI discover was built primarily for Open Collective Foundation as a marketing tool, so that they could point at a specific funding area and point to the impact they had had in that area.

It was also a marketing tool for Open Collective and OSC (I think a tweet from you originally turned me onto it). It provided a great way to discover and fund projects in open source (Open Source Discover Tag) and other ecosystems.

I guess you're saying someone using discover similarly for Open Source could benefit from seeing all the activity we (ecosystems) are pushing through open collective within a particular ecosystem.

I’m suggesting we could replicate what OCF did on their landing page (see the screengrab in the description) and link corresponding ecosystem funds to the relevant categories (examples in the issue description).

For example, linking oc-drupal-fund to Drupal on Discover. That way, supporters—both orgs and individuals—could choose to fund individual projects or contribute to the broader ecosystem fund.

Does that make sense? If so, would it be possible to contribute to Open Collective Discover and enable this, either programmatically or manually?
