I'm curious if y'all are planning on publishing this to crates.io.

Hi! We haven't worked on this in a while (and it wasn't yet in a finished state when we stopped) so probably not anytime soon. Unless you'd like to help; then I'll work on it more, too.

I'm curious, is this library in use in any production system? Or, what's the story behind why it got developed, but never finished? I'm considering using it.

No, not that I'm aware of.

Or, what's the story behind why it got developed, but never finished?

Everything uses a similar API on Windows (the USN journal) to store an up-to-date database on all filesystem paths for super quick searches and I wanted to create something similar for Linux, or even cross platform (Everything is closed source, too). The fanotify API was pretty new at the time, and I wasn't aware of any other applications or libraries using it this way, so I wanted to create it myself. I got too busy with other real life things, though, and never came back to finish it.

I'm considering using it.

That'd be great! But it's not really done yet. What do you want to use it for?
